Brian Kalkbrenner has over 20 years of experience in the field of Rare Books and Manuscripts. He has worked on the staff of several member-dealers of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA), including James Cummins Bookseller in New York. In addition, Brian spent five years in the Fine Books and Manuscripts department at Bonhams Auctioneers in New York and Los Angeles, where he sourced, catalogued, and sold books, maps, manuscripts and related material for 7 to 10 auctions a year, as well as provided valuations for appraisals. He has offered independent appraisals since 2020.
Brian has extensive experience in every category of bookselling and appraising, including Incunabula and Early Printing, Literature, Americana, Travel and Exploration, Fine Press Books, Science and Technology, Modern First Editions, Artists' Books, as well as Literary and Historical Manuscripts and Archives, Historical Photographs, Maps, and Printed Ephemera.
Brian is a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America, and is Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) compliant. He has completed coursework at the California Rare Books School, and is a member of the Bibliographical Society of America. In addition, Brian received an MFA in Poetry from New York University.
